II. STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:  Internships in computer/electronic related agencies are a vital part of the curriculum for students which have little work experience in these skill areas.  Placements can be initiated only after successful completion of first year coursework in the Computer & Electronics Program.  The Computer & Electronics Department Faculty will coordinate with local business and industry internship opportunities and participation, however it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to locate an appropriate internship site and negotiate the placement.  This will allow student the opportunity to practice their resume writing and interviewing skills before graduating to the job market. Onsite supervision is provided by the designated staff members of participating agencies.

The student will:

A.       Follow the program procedures as follows: Immediately begin to prepare a resume draft and then schedule an appointment with Latoya Garrison in career services to review and polish the resume and interviewing skills.  Latoya Garrison is located in the Career Services Suite and her contact information is GarrisonL@brcc.edu and her phone number is 540-453-2596.

Determine your goals and objectives for the semester.  These will be entered on the form provided by the faculty supervisor and returned two weeks after the first day of placement.  A late form can result in the lowering of the semester grade.

 B.       Perform all internship assignments in a professional manner, displaying an awareness of the need for promptness, excellent attendance, adherence to all agency policies and procedures, confidentiality, proper dress and demeanor, flexibility, initiative, tactful resolution of any conflict, and respect for agency personnel and equipment.

C.       Maintain a journal noting weekly entries of work completed/skills learned. The purpose of the journal is to encourage students to be aware of what they are experiencing throughout the internship.  It also provides an opportunity to reflect on readings, class discussions, challenges, conflicts, successes and areas of development and change.  This journal is submitted the final week of the semester.

D.   Share the internship experience during a 15 minute presentation during the end of the semester and this could also be a video presentation. Feel at ease when making a formal technical presentation to a group.
