Lab 1 ITN 103

The labs we will be doing are through the Virginia Cyber Range.  Each lab will have steps I would like you to perform. At the end of the steps I would like you to answer the questions I ask and to make comments on the procedures. Be sure to use a different color of font so I can see what you added if you cut and paste these instructions.

Step 1  Accessing Virginia Cyber Range

Go to https://www.virginiacyberrange.org/ and create an account. Once you have created an account I will need to add you to the course. So you will need to wait until I get that done.

Step 2  Accessing Windows Server

Once you get to access to the site you can choose the tile for ITN 103. This will take you to the place where you will get access to ITN 103 Server Administration material. Once in the course you have two choices for exercise groups. Choose the Environment: Windows Server 2019. In the next site you need to "start my environment". It take a few minutes to get it going. Once started then you can choose "Join my environment". Another tab should open with the virtual Windows server 2019.

Step 3 Exploring Windows Server

Are any devices not working properly in the Device Manager? Verify the name of your server (SMB name), it can be found in system. What processor and memory are being used? What version and edition of Windows Server is it?

Step 4 System Information and Get-Windows Features (PowerShell Introduction)

Do a manual assessment by running msinfo32.exe and using the cmdlet Get-WindowsFeature with the PowerShell. What type of output did these programs give you?

Step 5  Customize the Server

Install some software that you would use to run the computer for yourself. It may be a web browser or adobe reader. The virtual system maintains your settings and installs if you don't use the "reinstall my environment.
